"Since the children, as he calls them, are people of flesh and blood, Jesus himself became like them and shared their human nature." (Hebrews 2:14)
In Jesus, God became a human being and experienced life as you and I know it. Here are some things to wrap our minds around:
1. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) was in his mother's womb for 9 months. Besides, he was born from a teenage pregnancy.
2. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) had to be wrapped in swaddling clothes as a newborn to keep him warm. Besides, he was born in an animal pen and not a labour ward
3. Like you and I, as a baby, Jesus' (GOD's) parents had to work extra hard to make sure he survived. Besides, the most powerful man in his town wanted him dead.
4. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) surely pooped in his diapers (or whatever they wore then), had to be potty trained and likely tripped the first attempts he made at walking
5. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD), when he was 12, got into big trouble with his parents. The kind of trouble that gets you spanked (to think that his dad was a blue-collar guy, jeez)
6. Like most of us, Jesus (GOD) didn't make much of an impression on people during his teenage and young adult years. He was just another carpenter's son. He wasn't voted the "most promising" kid at the Nazareth talent show...not by a mile
7. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) HAD to work with Dad at the family shop while growing up. He sawed wood and hammered nails. He sure must have dealt with some annoying customers. You know, those guys at Nazareth were not the nicest people
8. Like you and I, Jesus loved his mum.....but sometimes, he just wished she could stay out of his business
9. Like you and I, when Jesus (GOD) finally decided to step up and follow his passion, some well-meaning friends and family thought he was nuts
10. Like you and I, when Jesus (GOD) began to succeed, haters came calling
11. Like any local celebrity, Jesus (GOD) was constantly mobbed by the paparazzi....he had to hide many times and he even and 12 guys who sometimes acted as his bodyguards
13. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) had some things he just couldn't tell anybody....because they just wouldn't understand. He kept it between him and his heavenly father
14. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) was once so thirsty he had to ask a stranger for a drink
15. Like most of us, Jesus (GOD) had one of his close friends sell him out for money. Another one denied ever meeting him
16. Like you and I, Jesus (GOD) had to make arrangements for elderly care for his ageing mum
17 Like so many people, Jesus (GOD) had a father who did not feature in the most productive and meaningful years of his life. Nobody knew where his father was - he probably died before Jesus started blooming.
18. Like you and I will experience one day, Jesus (GOD) died and was buried. He too had to rely on the kindness of friends and family to get a decent burial.
My friend, I don't care what you are going through and what your status in life is, Jesus has been there. He can relate. You don't have to be an alien before you are godly...even Jesus wasn't. Don't let the enemy fool you. Let Christ express himself in your humanity.
